Anthropic files S-1 with SEC disclosing enterprise customer counts, cross-product adoption and H1 2026 revenue of $16.3B

Anthropic filed an S-1 with the SEC on Monday (IPO filing), making public financial and customer metrics. As of Sept 30: more than 11,900 customers spending at least $100K annually, more than 1,900 spending $1M+, and about 250 spending $10M+. More than half of $100K+ customers use both the Claude platform and a first-party app (Claude Code, Cowork), up from about 30% at end of last year. Net revenue retention was about 900% at the end of Q3. Revenue was $16.3B for H1 2026 versus $1.2B in the same period a year earlier. The top 5% of Claude Enterprise customers using Claude Code spent about 20x as much per month as the average enterprise user not using it. The filing also discloses risks: cloud partners (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) increasingly view Anthropic as a competitor, which could affect compute access, and customer concentration. The "Ode with Anthropic" venture with Blackstone and other private equity firms was also mentioned as recently launched.

What happened

Anthropic filed an S-1 with the SEC on Monday, the formal step towards an IPO. As reported by TechCrunch, it shows H1 2026 revenue of $16.3B against $1.2B a year earlier. At 30 September it had over 11,900 customers spending $100K+ a year, over 1,900 at $1M+ and about 250 at $10M+. More than half of $100K+ customers use both the Claude platform and a first-party app such as Claude Code or Cowork, up from about 30% at the end of last year. Net revenue retention was about 900% at the end of Q3. The filing also flags risks: AWS, Google Cloud and Azure increasingly see Anthropic as a competitor, which could affect compute access, and customer concentration.

02

Why it matters

This is rare audited-grade disclosure from a leading AI lab, so investors, rivals and enterprise buyers can now size the business with real numbers rather than leaks. The spend tiers show revenue is weighted towards large accounts, which fits the customer concentration risk. The cross-product figures suggest buyers who adopt both the platform and apps spend more, which is useful to anyone benchmarking AI vendor lock-in or pricing. The cloud partner warning matters for anyone relying on Anthropic models through those clouds, though the filing does not say access is currently threatened.

03

What is noise

The Amazon and Uber "stickiness" comparison is TechCrunch's framing and the company's preferred narrative, not something the numbers prove. Net revenue retention of about 900% is an unusual figure that reflects a very small starting base and rapid expansion, so it should not be read as a stable long-run rate. The 20x spend gap for top Claude Code users compares heavy users with average ones, so it does not show that the tool causes higher spend. We are also reading a secondary report with no link to the filing itself.

Watch next

  1. 01The filing text itself and any amendments: check the reported figures, the definition of net revenue retention and how revenue is recognised, especially through cloud resellers.
  2. 02Customer concentration detail: how much revenue comes from the largest customers and cloud partners, and any change in the $10M+ cohort of about 250 customers in later quarterly figures.
  3. 03Pricing, listing date and valuation once the roadshow starts, plus any change in terms with AWS, Google Cloud or Azure that backs up or eases the compute access risk.
