Apple releases iOS, macOS and other 27.2 updates adding Siri AI memory, more data sources, five new languages and SynthID support
Apple shipped 27.2 updates for iOS, macOS (Golden Gate), watchOS, tvOS and visionOS. Siri AI can now recall past conversations and draw on more sources (Messages photos, Calendar attendees, voicemails, Safari history, Reading List). A new "Excluded Apps" setting controls which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access. Siri AI adds French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, but is still unavailable in the EU and mainland China. Photos and Image Playground gain SynthID watermarking support. Other changes: Messages suggestions, Apple TV profiles, a new Apple Music logo, and Apple Pencil support on iPhone Duo.

What happened
Apple shipped 27.2 updates for iOS, macOS (Golden Gate), watchOS, tvOS and visionOS. Siri AI can now recall past conversations and draw on more personal sources: Messages photos, Calendar attendees, voicemails, Safari history and Reading List. A new "Excluded Apps" setting lets users control which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access. Siri AI adds French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, but is still unavailable in the EU and mainland China. Photos and Image Playground gain SynthID watermarking support. The rest is minor: Messages suggestions, Apple TV profiles, a new Apple Music logo and Apple Pencil support on iPhone Duo.
Why it matters
This is a point release, but it reaches a very large installed base, so the Siri memory and wider data access will be the first time many people meet an assistant that remembers earlier chats and reads their voicemails and browsing history. That makes the Excluded Apps setting the practical decision point for anyone, and for IT teams managing company devices, who cares about privacy or data exposure. Five new languages widen the audience, though the EU and mainland China, two huge markets, remain excluded. SynthID support is a small step towards labelling AI-generated images, but it only helps if other platforms actually check for it.
What is noise
The speculation that gesture-recognition references point to touch support on the next MacBook Pro is unconfirmed and irrelevant to this release. The new languages were already announced, and the Music logo and Apple TV profiles are cosmetic. The coverage also gives no evidence yet on how well the memory works, so "Siri remembers" is a claim, not a measured capability.
Watch next
- 01Independent hands-on tests of Siri memory over the next few weeks: how accurate recall is, how often it surfaces wrong or sensitive items, and whether Excluded Apps reliably blocks what it should.
- 02Any Apple or regulator statement on bringing Siri AI to the EU (Digital Markets Act and GDPR questions) or mainland China, and a date for it.
- 03Whether other platforms and apps start reading SynthID marks on images made with Photos and Image Playground, and any privacy researcher findings on Siri's new data sources.
